Ali Reza Ashoori (b. 1992 Mahallat, Iran) takes inspiration from their surroundings to create puppets, textiles, paintings, installations, and performances that can be at once political, intense, and playful. In exploring the physical features and restrictions of the human body, they question the relationship between the artwork as an object and the gallery environment. For this is personal, Ashoori presents a text installation integrated into the gallery's architecture, dealing with the politics around sex work with a focus on "Shahr-e No", a red light district in Tehran active in the mid 20th century.
